Atlanta's railway center made it a key target during the Civil War. You can see the brutal battle depicted in the Atlanta Cyclorama and Civil War Museum, which displays the world's largest oil painting on canvas weighing 9,334 pounds. Visit Centennial Olympic Park where the 1996 summer games were held, or eat at the world's largest drive-in.
Before heading into Atlanta, study your map and read up on your exits. Make sure you're getting off at the right place. It can be very difficult to turn around if you get off the wrong exit and sometimes you can't get back on the highway.
In the Atlanta Circle, don't go over 55 mph and stay in your lane. Read the posted signs. They will direct you to which lane is for trucks.
There is often construction in and around the city. Watch your speed. You don't want to get pulled over. They have hefty fines here.
There is a good truck stop, a TA, on Atlanta's eastside, but you have to hunt for it. When you get off the exit, follow traffic to find it.
